The collaboration will power Joule's high-performance computing data center campus in Utah with an innovative green energy solution designed specifically for AI workloads.
The project will deliver up to 4GW of energy capacity to the Midwestern United States through a groundbreaking system combining primary power generation with integrated Combined Cooling, Heat and Power (CCHP) solutions. The liquid-cooled architecture, tailored for high-density server systems, represents a significant leap forward in sustainable computing infrastructure.
At the heart of the system are Caterpillar's new Cat® G3520K gas generator sets, which achieve unprecedented efficiency by capturing waste heat for cooling purposes. The configuration also includes 1.1GW of grid-scale battery storage and multi-fuel backup generation capabilities, ensuring both sustainability and reliability for mission-critical AI operations.
Caterpillar's expanding U.S. manufacturing capabilities enable rapid deployment of these systems, addressing the urgent market need for scalable computing power. The fully integrated solution also features advanced control systems, smart switching equipment, high-efficiency inverters, and the comprehensive CCHP system—creating a turnkey power ecosystem for next-generation data centers.
